Two things I’d rather you know now than discover in module four
This is not a lighting course. Exposure and low light come up throughout, because they have to, but no module teaches you to shoot at ISO 6400. You can learn that anywhere, and you should have it before you take a birth client. What you can’t learn anywhere is how to carry yourself in a delivery room, how to avoid being asked to leave, where to stand during a C-section, and how to build a business around a calendar you don’t control. That’s what’s in here.
I built this several years ago. I’m putting it back out because the fundamentals haven’t changed. Hospital politics are still hospital politics. Consent, choreography, contracts, and on-call logistics work the same now as they did then, and those took me longest to learn. What has dated: some of the specific gear I mention, and the marketing sections that touch social platforms. Treat those as context rather than current recommendation. The price reflects it. Do I need to already be a working photographer?
You should already be comfortable in manual and able to work in a dark room without thinking about it. This is professional training for the person behind the camera, not an introduction to photography, and not a resource for families hiring a birth photographer.
Will this teach me to shoot in low light?
